Keeping Up with the Janes

If you haven't taken the time to watch 13 Reasons Why (Netflix Original), it's a series that basically describes what many girls face when they attend high school. It can be very intense and hits close to home, so please be prepared. I attended a super rapey/misogynistic high school in the central valley as a teen, and this series sheds light on how mens behavior impacts the way women and young girls are treated in society; not only by men and boys, but by other women and girls. It doesn't end after high school. People sometimes assume that I don't get along with men because I started an organization that empowers women, but I assure you that I love men and appreciate their role in this world. I have a loving father, two wonderful sons, and many men in my life whom I respect and look up to.

I am super excited to be attending the sold out showing of Wonder Woman this week at the Minor Theater in Arcata, and look forward to many more opportunities for women to connect with one another and lift each other up in our community. A huge thanks goes out to the Minor Theater for putting this awesome event together, and for dealing with all of the chaotic responses they have received from members of our community who disagree with having a ladies night. We appreciate this wonderful opportunity.

Redwood Women's Foundation is about creating a space for women to learn new things, to advance our networking opportunities and skills, to make our community a better place, and to learn how to work more effectively together, especially in regards to being kind and inclusive. Our organization offers one donation based workshop per month geared towards women, but in the future, we plan to offer additional workshops that all of the members of our community can enjoy. Be sure to set some time aside in your calendar to catch up with old and new friends. Remember to nurture and keep those relationships alive by tending to them with positive words, consistency, and actions.
